The SID 482 visa is a temporary visa which permits employers to sponsor skilled employees to live in Australia while working full-time in a skilled position.

Do I qualify as a

sponsor?

The main requirements to qualify as a 482 visa sponsor are:

1.    Operate a business lawfully - you can be a company as well as a sole trader

2.    The business must be financially viable

3. The position must be skilled (part of the CSOL list)

4.    The position must be offered to local workforce first (labor market testing is mandatory unless an exemption applies)

5. There is a demonstrated need to cover the role

6.  The salary paid to the employee must be in line with the market rate and not below the threshold in force at the time of the nomination

what if the occupation

is not on the csol

list?

The new SID 482 visa comes under two different streams. The “Core skills” stream requires the occupation to be in the CSOL list. The “Specialist skills” stream allows employers to sponsor beyond the CSOL list as long as the role is defined by the ANZSCO listed in Major Groups 1,2,4,5 or 6 with a salary that meets the Specialist Skills Income Threshold ($135,000 until 1 July 2025, increased yearly).

Note tha immigration requires the visa applicant to be skilled for the role (qualifications and or work experience are always needed).

Besides the ANZSCO criteria, Immigration always require the applicant to have at least 1 year of full time work experience in the nominated occupation gained recently (in the last 5 years and before the application is made)
